Community Strong - Featuring Forward Through Ferguson, Child Care Entrepreneurs

Empowered Spaces is delighted to invite you to the next Community Strong: A Yoga Class for Wellness Professionals. The goal of this trauma-informed yoga series is to build practices of self-care within relationship and community, as well as support and learn about organizations doing innovative healing work within the contexts of social justice, racial justice, and trauma.

Our next event on January 11, 1:00-2:15PM will feature Forward Through Ferguson, Child Care Entrepreneurs. The goal of this project is to ensure that community-based child care centers and homes remain viable, vibrant options for working parents on St. Louis's north side. Central to preserving community-based child care is support for Center and Home directors, largely women entrepreneurs whose business models function to:
• educate and care for infants & PreK children so parents achieve career and educational advancement
• bolster the infrastructure of their neighborhoods through brick and mortar anchoring, jobs, purchasing, and related economic exchanges
• insulate communities from becoming infant-child care deserts (geographic areas where the demand for infant care far outstrips the scarce supply).

Details:
Each Community Strong event will feature one local agency. We will start with a 60-minute trauma-informed yoga class led by one of the yoga teachers at Empowered Spaces. The class will explore trauma-informed yoga as a tool for practicing nervous system awareness and regulation, mindfulness, self-compassion, and connection. Our class will be led by Lindsay Dickes, MSW, LCSW, RYT-500, founder of Compassionate BodyMind, LLC. Learn more about Lindsay at www.compassionatebodymind.com.

The class will be donation-based, and 100% of donations will be given to the featured organization. Following the class, a leader from the organization will speak about how their work relates to trauma and/or social justice issues. There will be time at the end for connecting in community over snacks and drinks. As an expression of gratitude for the amazing work they are doing in our community, the featured organization will also receive a week of free drop-in yoga classes at Empowered Spaces for their staff.

The Yoga for Wellness Professionals class, as well as the drop-in classes, are for all levels, all bodies, and all people. Come exactly as you are.

We can't wait to gather with you and recognize the work being done at Forward Through Ferguson, Child Care Entrepreneurs!
