A 5 Week Workshop about how neuroscience forms human behavior within the context of a traditional yoga sequence using the wisdom of the nervous system as explained through Steven Porge's Polyvagal Theory.
Students will be offered a 30 minute lecture followed by a 60 minute traditional hatha yoga sequence using cues that blend together the wisdom of the nervous system and human behavior.

Sepetmeber 4// Week 1: Introduction to Polyvagal Theory with Applied Practice
September 11// Week 2: Focused Lecture on the Dorsal Vagal Complex (shut down/disassociated state) followed by an applied yoga practice on how to engage students/clients who might be functioning in the Dorsal Vagal Complex
September 18//Week 3: Focused Lecture on the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) (hyperaroused state) with applied yoga praciceon how to engage yoga students/clients who might be functioning out of the SNS.
September 25//Week 4: Focused Lecture on Social Engagement: Cueing the Nervous System and applied yoga practice on cueing students/clients with the nervous system in mind.
October 2//Week 5: Debrief/Questions/Class Discussion
Our weekly class format will look something like this:
7:00-:7:30: Focused 30 Minute Lecture on the Wisdom of the Nervous System through Polgyvagal Theory
7:30-8:30: Applied practice within the context of a traditional hatha yoga sequence

Students will gain the following skills from this Workshop/Lecture Series:
- will have an introductory understanding of polyvagal theory within the traditional lens of the nervous system
-gain real real life application with personal and professional discretion
-gain new insights on how human behavior impacts a person's experience within the traditional yoga sequence
-learn cueing for yoga shapes that supports the nervous system
-gain new ways to apply a transdisciplinary cueing approach that can be applied across human service professionals.

Lindsay Dickes, MSW, LCSW, RYT-500:
Lindsay (she/her) a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga (RYT-500). With over a decade as a yoga practitioner, Lindsay has been teaching yoga, mindfulness, meditation, self-soothing and emotion-regulation skills since 2008. She is the owner of Compassionate BodyMind, LLC, offering trauma-informed integrative psychotherapy and yoga therapy services to adolescents, young adults women and gender diverse individuals.
Julie Johnson, M. Ed, TVI, ATS :
Julie Johnson (she/her) is a Special Education Teacher and Assistive Technology Specialist with Special School District of St. Louis County as well as a yoga teacher in training at Joy of Yoga's 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (due to graduate in October of 2019). She is also the co-founder and coordinator of the Fit Abilities Adaptive Yoga Program that supports students with disabilities social emotional learning within the Ferguson/Florissant, Riverview Gardens and Hazelwood School Districts using yoga as the tool to develop these skills. She has completed 20 Hours of Training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with the Center for Trauma and Embodiment , 14 Hours of Training from Yoga Ed's Trauma Informed Yoga for Youth and 14 hours of Trauma Informed Yoga Training for Youth by Street Yoga.
In addition to teaching, Julie also spends her time doing trauma informed advocacy with a team of other Trauma Informed Professionals and Survivors with Integrate Trauma Informed Network
