Our Vision

Our vision is to collectively create a more mindful, equitable, and compassionate world that will honor our interdependence, celebrate our diversity, and allow for everyone to live a life of joy and wellness.

At Empowered Spaces, we strive to be accessible, welcoming, and honoring of all individuals. We welcome you exactly as you are, all parts of you, and all of your experiences. We believe in honoring every individual’s lived experience, deeply listening to one another, learning about and honoring all differences.  More importantly, we recognize that it is the members of this community who truly create this space.

Our intention is to co-create a collaborative space for building an intentional community. We acknowledge that the ongoing work of building community and solidarity across power differentials—from our different social positions and uneven access to resources and privilege—is messy, complex, and uncomfortable. Knowing that we all carry our own blinds spots and implicit bias, we know that all of us at times will inevitably fall short.

We are committed to doing the deep inner work of recognizing our own privilege and internalized systems of oppression, identifying the implicit biases we carry, and holding ourselves accountable.

Your voice matters - we invite you to share any experiences related to feelings of discomfort, exclusion, and lack of safety to help us create and improve the community at Empowered Spaces.

We believe that learning is never over. We are deeply committed to holding space and attuned presence for acknowledging and healing inherited shadows of racism, sexism, cis-heteronormativity, colonization, and unfair access to power and privilege.

To simply use buzzwords is insufficient and harmful. We share in the vision of a just, equitable, and safe society for all, and we are daring to work towards creating the world we want to inhabit.

Equity and Belonging

Standing In Solidarity

Since our inception, Empowered Spaces has been committed to trauma-informed care, social justice, and anti-racist solidarities.

In these times, we want to reaffirm our commitment against anti-black racism and white supremacy.

We know that none of us can fully embody our own humanity until Black lives are afforded the same dignity. We know that none of us can truly be well until we are all well, none of us can truly be safe and liberated until we are all liberated. The only way to honor our interconnectedness is to stand for justice.

We are deeply committed to showing up and standing in solidarity against racism, systemic oppression, and police brutality because Black Lives Matter.

We remain committed to -

  • Doing the deep and ongoing inner work of recognizing our own privilege and internalized systems of oppression, identifying the implicit biases we carry, and holding ourselves and each other accountable. It is not enough for us to just say that we hold brave space and are welcoming to all, if we are not holding that same space and attuned presence to acknowledge and heal our own inherited shadows of racism, sexism, heteronormativity, colonization, and unfair access to power and privilege. Not only is it not enough, it is harmful.

  • Listening to and learning from Black and Indigenous People of Color.

  • Amplifying and supporting the voices of Black and Indigenous People of Color, and the organizations that are leading the way with racial justice work.

  • Holding brave space for the hard conversations.

  • Continuing to host trainings on implicit bias, anti-racism, and trauma.

  • Building community partnerships in anti-racist solidarity work.

  • Continuing the Empowered Spaces Equity Scholarship Fund, and offering an equity  justice pricing scale for our offerings. It is part of our mission to support those who have typically been excluded or have experienced barriers to accessing yoga and other healing modalities.

Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression, & Justice Centered Resources

We are committed to our ongoing learning and unlearning, and we invite you to join us. To transform our world into one that is just, equitable, and affords every single person the ability to live a life of joy and wellbeing, we must be committed to our ongoing work.

Anti-racism calls for action and requires daily practice. We also acknowledge that each person’s work will look differently depending on their own identities and access to privilege. As a way to support us all in continuing to move forward in this work, here is a list of resources to consider.
