Blanca Perez (she/her)
Yoga instructor, Neuroscientist, Pharmacology PhD, Mental Health Advocate
Blanca tried her first yoga class in her twenties, while working on her PhD and going through a lot of psychological and physical stress. She knew nothing about it and was quite skeptical of what she would get from it. As many people do when they try it, she saw it just as a physical practice. She would have never imagined that later on, her yoga practice would become the healer of her deepest emotional and physical struggles.
She moved from Spain to the US to pursue her postdoctoral research career in neuroscience in early 2020. Going through the COVID-19 pandemic alone and in a different country definitely had an effect on her life. Reflecting on it nowadays, she absolutely believes her yoga practice saved her life. It was then when she decided to deepen her practice and become a yoga instructor. She got her 200H Yoga Teacher Training at Urban Breath Yoga in St. Louis (MO) in early 2022, in addition to trauma- and eating disorder-informed training, and she has been teaching at the studio and on her own since then.
Blanca strongly believes yoga is for everybody; no matter the age, shape or fitness skills, and she is very passionate about bringing all the benefits of the yoga practice (mental, emotional and physical), to all individuals, but especially those that struggle with mental health and trauma. Her goal is to transmit all the healing yoga provided to her to all individuals that are battling similar situations as she was.
Her favorite yoga styles are vinyasa and hatha, and especially strong vinyasa-style practices, but always prioritizing self-care and kindness to ourselves. In her classes, she emphasizes linking breath to movement, making the practice become a tool to reconnect with your own body and align physical, emotional and mental energies. After her classes, you will feel strong, empowered and rejuvenated. She believes that the lessons we learn and the experiences we go through on the mat, can teach us how to live our lives better off the mat and become a better version of ourselves.
