heARTful wellness workshop

creativity powered by mindfulness self-care practice

Offered in person every 1st Friday of the Month

from 6:00- 7:30pm

Led by Renée S. D. Tate (she/her)

WHAT TO EXPECT

All 18+ years old are welcome. No prior experience with visual art required.

You are invited to experience a calming, mindful, and creativity infused time to give yourself the gift of pause and connection. Our 90 minutes together is co-created as a safer space for you to turn down the noise of daily life and center yourself using a variety of art materials.

A mindfulness intention will be provided as a way to guide our time exploring and playing with art materials. Renée will provide support and inspiration as needed. There will be moments to connect with yourself as well as moments to connect with the other participants as we practice creative mindfulness together.

A variety of art supplies will be available (e.g. watercolors, colored pencils, alcohol markers, permanent markers, gel pens, oil pastels, crayons, collage, and textile materials such as fabric, yarn, buttons, embroidery thread, ephemera, etc.). Please feel free to bring any art supplies that you especially enjoy or bring comfort.

Goals for the workshop include lowered stress, increased positive mood, and enhanced overall wellness. You will be able to take home your art piece(s) along with provided mindfulness tips to incorporate creative wellness practices into each day.

This workshop is not therapy–it’s for educational purposes only. **New content is provided each month**

Meet Renee

Renée S. D. Tate (she/her), MA, LPC (MO), LCPC (IL), ATR, REAT graduated with her master’s in Art Therapy Counseling from SIUE in 2014. Renée is a registered art therapist, expressive arts therapist, and licensed therapist in Illinois and Missouri. She founded heARTful remedies, LLC in January 2020. A foundational principle of heARTful remedies is that when we engage in creativity, we are able to access more possibilities for change. Creativity allows us to use our whole Self to discover solutions we might not find as easily through a singular medium such as talking. Renée is passionate about providing creative care through a cultural humility framework inside and outside the therapy room with a focus on equity, access, allyship, safety, and authenticity.

In 2023, Renée started facilitating local heARTful wellness workshops and authored heARTful wellness: mindfulness tips for daily wellness adult coloring workbook (2023) as a means to provide greater creative community care and make mental health wellness skills more accessible. Renee believes that we all have infinite capacity to grow and heal–sometimes we just need some extra support or additional tools. Renée loves to create textile art, garden, and play with her therapy dog Justyce. To stay updated on what Renée and Justyce are up to through heARTful remedies, check out FB and IG @heARTfulremedies as well as heARTfulremedies.com
