Gentle Yoga

Wednesdays 5:15 - 6:15 PM

Led by Rieko Griffin | she/her/hers

Here is an invitation to find a seat on your yoga mat.  This trauma-informed yoga class is all levels, and for all people where we can choose how to move.

We take time to settle on the mat upon arrival. We then have an opportunity to check in with our body and mind as we bring attention to our breath.  Our practice is gentle so that we can find steadiness with ease.

We are  encouraged to rest whenever  we need during the practice.  There will be invitations to bring attention to our breath while we experience sensation as we move.

We practice cultivating gratitude for showing up and being able to spend time for self-care.  We practice non-judgement, while cultivating presence and awareness on our sacred mat.  We practice creating a safe place where we can breathe with ease and rest when needed.  We practice listening to our body and honoring our being while we focus on being compassionately present.

The yoga teacher is simply your guide and witness.  Take your space and time on your mat.

EQUITY PRICING:

Empowered Spaces and Rieko Griffin value community care. Given the systemic injustice in this world which affects each of us differently, this equity pricing scale acknowledges that our ability to pay for services, and access those services, varies. We offer a self-determined sliding scale based on the ways that your identity grants you access to privilege and to social capital, e.g. race, gender & sexual identity, socio-economic status, educational background, able-bodied-ness, etc.

  • Sustainer Rate - "I can pay my way" - $20

  • Supporter Rate - "I can help support my community" - $25

  • Community Rate - "I can use support from my community" - $15

  • *Full and Partial Scholarships available

(realize, too, that you can pay between these rates, as well)

Yoga mats, blocks, blankets, cushions and chairs are provided, but feel free to bring your own

**Full & Partial scholarships: Empowered Spaces is committed to doing everything possible to make offerings accessible to everyone. To inquire about the Empowered Spaces Equity Scholarship please contact Kelly at kkcaul@yahoo.com

Meet Rieko

I have been a student of Yoga for some time. I completed 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training which included trauma sensitive element (2018) and prenatal yoga training with Stacy Broussard (2020) through Urban Breath Yoga Studio. I continue to enjoy various workshops realizing study of Yoga is a journey. Some of those workshops and teaching have influenced me to change the way I serve as a social worker in a medical setting. I am learning to listen more and respond with kindness. I am also learning the value of being a witness. I enjoy sharing benefit of Yoga practice such as relaxation, mindfulness, and physical well-being. I practice with you to create space to be present. I practice with you to cultivate gratitude and compassion especially for our own being.
