Moving Into Story: a 4-week Workshop Combining Yoga and Storytelling

February 18 & 25, March 4 & 11

9am - 12pm

Led by Anna Bushlack (she/her)

Welcome to Storiespeak: a workshop dedicated to you and your stories.

A 4-week yoga and storytelling workshop focusing on the stories we hold in our bodies.

Using the chakras as a thematic structure, every class will open with yoga and movement.

The remainder of class time will focus on story generation, crafting narrative, and telling stories with the chakra system as our guide.

No experience with yoga or storytelling is necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen with them to class.

Throughout the course of the 4-weeks, we’ll utilize writing prompts, voice and presentation exercises, and embodied inquiry. Participants will have the opportunity to share their stories with the rest of the class every week.

This workshop is especially for:

·       Anyone open to engaging in yoga and movement.

·       People curious about the stories they hold in their bodies.

·       Anyone wanting to infuse their life with more creativity.

·       People who want to strengthen their voice and storytelling skills.

This class will include a yoga practice, personal reflection time, and story sharing circles.

Meet Anna

Anna has been taking yoga classes for over 20 years, but during the pandemic, her yoga practice became essential to maintaining her mental and physical health. This realization of the importance of her daily home practice led her to seek out a yoga teacher training. In 2022, Anna completed her 200hr YTT through Circle Yoga Shala, a wisdom school for yoga, ayurveda, and inquiry in Northwest Arkansas. Anna is a substitute yoga teacher at Women in Charge, a small school for women working towards earning their GED, and her aim with every yoga class is to invite participants into greater presence in their own bodies through movement, inquiry, and breath.

Anna is also the founder of Storiespeak, an organization committed to helping people unearth, craft, and share their personal stories through writing, live storytelling, and solo performance. Her passion for storytelling stems from her theatre training at the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University, where she specialized in playwriting and solo performance. From 2003 – 2011, Anna toured her own one-woman show, Slow Children Playing, to festivals around the United States. From Chicago to St. Louis, to Cincinnati where she won the Producer’s Pick of the Fringe award, to New York City and Los Angeles, Anna saw firsthand how sharing stories can build community, break down stereotypes, and initiate healing. She believes that every person is a treasure trove of stories, and she loves nothing more than assisting others in discovering the language of their stories – their storiespeak! Anna has told stories through multiple St. Louis venues: STL Storytell, Listen to Your Mother STL, and St. Louis Public Radio’s The Story Collider.

Alongside her practice of storytelling, writing, and yoga, Anna is an actor and voice over artist represented by NOW Talent Management. She is proud to call the city of St. Louis home where she resides with her husband and three children.
