Stacy Berry, ERYT500 (she/her)

Yoga Teacher, Artist, Empowered Spaces Advisory Circle Member

Founder of Yoga Pipeline and Stacy Berry Art

Stacy’s yoga journey began in 2003 and she became a yoga teacher in 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2013, Stacy was the first African-American in the city of Charlotte to launch a Yoga Alliance 200 hour registered yoga school. For nearly three years she supported Dr. Rose LeDay and her team of therapists at Transcend ed by teaching yoga to their clients recovering from disordered eating. During that time she successfully completed her advanced yoga studies training with Shari Goldstein to become a RYT500. Also in 2015, Stacy trained in Philadelphia with Dr. Melody Moore of Embody Love Movement, a female empowerment non-profit for adolescents and adults.

In 2016 Stacy created Yoga Pipeline, a social justice initiative that establishes yoga programs in economically depressed schools around the St. Louis area and contracts other yoga teachers to support her in this important work. Yoga Pipeline also has intentions to launch yoga programs for incarcerated women and girls. She has written a curriculum for a 300 hour yoga school and plans to open it to the public in 2021.

Stacy’s parents still have a small sculpture that she made in middle school. It's about 35 years old! Her mother says that she walked into the school one day and was drawn to a particular piece of art in the school's display case. She read the name and was shocked to see Stacy’s name. LOL! As she moved into adult life, Stacy would regularly create various craft projects and either use them in her home or give them away as gifts. In 2009 she started a stationery business called Namastationery, a nod to her then recent graduation from yoga teacher training. She created detailed hand-designed greeting cards and journals. Eventually her yoga career took over and she abandoned art for nearly a decade.  Eventually she started purchasing art supplies and creating again. Her works were so well received that she started getting requests for commissions. Shortly thereafter, she created Yoga Pipeline. She offers yoga classes to under-served schools and communities, incarcerated youths and adults, and support teachers who have established community classes with these populations.

Purchase Art, Support Yoga Pipeline

Although she/Yoga Pipeline are paid for some of their work, there are instances when they offer their services for free. So she decided to start committing part of her art sales towards supply funding for Yoga Pipeline. It's the marriage of her two passions. As she builds her website (wish her luck!), you can find her artwork on Instagram @stacyberryart. You can follow along with the progress of Yoga Pipeline, also on Instagram @yogapipeline.

Donate to Yoga Pipeline

At the encouragement of loved ones, she created a cash app account for donations: $yogapipeline. Even it it's only a word of encouragement, she appreciates the warm support of the St. Louis community.
